I purchased this as a gift for a friend who says it is a great asset when determining how much walking a true New Yorker really does. The only downfall was that it took awhile to get it correctly calibrated to measure effectively.

My employer just gave me one of these and I searched the value here on Amazon. The price has come down considerably. It used to be . So I had to edit my review about it not being worth the money. Now it is worth it. It is an awesome pedometer!. It fits anywhere I want to keep it without bothering me. I've had it now for almost a year.

The most difficult feature of the pedometer was that it did not have a trip feature AND it resets every night at midnight. That means if you wanted to know exactly how many steps you take on a specific walking course/activity then you will have to look at your number of steps before and after and then subtract the difference. It seems to me that if they can make a cool gadget that measures steps and computes caloric burning they could surely make it have a resettable trip feature that comes standard. I like that it automatically resets because I would probably forget to zero it out if I had to. But I would at least like the option. Basically you set it up once and never change anything ever again. That is convenient.

I went to New Orleans and I was trying to keep track of how many steps I took while I was in the city one evening and at midnight it reset. That isn't a big problem but I would have loved to know how many steps I took that day up until 2AM. My pedometer reset at midnight because I live in a different time zone.

I would also like to see weekend steps versus a hiking weekend without having to go back and look at the day and personally add three days of steps. Just a minor inconvenience but again this thing should do it. That being said I don't know if I would pay any more for that feature. What you really want is how many steps are you taking in general. That is easily accomplished wit this pedometer.

This product counts steps and it does it well. One day I walked 8-9 miles on a path. I checked the mileage at the end. I then turned around and walked the reverse path home. The mileage should have been the same. The difference was within a few 1/100ths of a mile. I was impressed. I had my GPS along and was going to use that to calibrate my pedometer. However, the GPS difference between coming and going was a few 1/10ths of a mile. That said, you can't believe the absolute distances. Your stride varies between steep terrain and level, between hard surfaces and sand, between when you are rested and tired and maybe even between night and day if you are walking in the boonies.

When I recently lost my first Oregon pedometer I really missed knowing how many steps I was walking. Of course as soon as I ordered this new one, the other mysteriously appeared outside our apartment.

This Oregon Calorie Stepper Pedometer doesn't work if you toss it in your pocket, you have to make sure it is attached to your belt or at least at the waistband. It makes a soft clicking sound as you walk but your brain will eventually filter out the noise so you no longer hear it.

So what are the features? Well this Pedometer seems to have them all:

Calorie Measurement
Total Distance in miles
Steps taken
A Backlight
Body Weight - (65 - 340 lbs)
Motion Sensitivity Switch
Reset button
Clock
Time that has elapsed
HR/ + - changes time and helps to input weight for
calorie counter
Min/ - changes time
(You do need a paper clip to set time, etc.)

For example, this is what I recorded today:

Steps: 8,737
Calories burned: 214
Miles: 2.75

The only thing I don't like about this pedometer is that it is fairly difficult to open. You really have to press down pretty hard on the cover release button. I think it has to be that way otherwise the pedometer would open while you were walking.

Don't worry about buying batteries to get this pedometer to work. It comes with two LR43 1.5V batteries that are easy to replace. The batteries should last one year.

I think you will love this pedometer and it will motivate you to try to
reach 10,000 steps a day. One day I actually did walk 15,116 steps so
it is possible to walk more than the recommended 10,000 steps if you
really want to push yourself.

I bought this device one week ago and I like it a lot. It counts steps pretty accurately, I measured it three time and I got the following results: 401/400, 101/100 and 897/900. The first number is what it showed, the second what I walked. Basically accuracy at 1% or better, which is exceptional for this price. I use the least sensitive setting.


The backlight is very nice and by tilting the device a bit more one can see the display clearly at night. The clamshell design is also nice and practical, avoiding pressing buttons accidentaly (and resetting for example a day's steps).


Now, do not buy this device for the FM radio. The reception is pretty poor and the quality of sound when you get a signal is what you would expect from a device costing as much as this. Plus I guess it will deplete the batteries much faster than just the pedometer function. I do not know if the other device of the same company with the calorie meter uses the same mechanism, but probably it would be more practical and for the same price provide something more.


In conclusion, this device has a good price for what it gives, although there are accurate pedometers with less money that someone can buy, but definately do not seem as sturdy. Personally I like this device a lot and I highly recommend it (pending of course to see how long it will last as well as how long it takes to change batteries).

I was worried that for the price, I wasn't going to get an accurate count or that the radio would be lousy, but I am happy to say I was wrong! The radio is strong (though it cuts out, which i think is because it has an internal antenna) and easy to use, and the count (so far) is accurate within 2 steps. I highly recommend this product!

The pedometer arrived promptly. It works as advertised, and is not so very difficult to operate as stated by previous poster. If you can use a cell phone you can use this. It could use a longer and better securing belt clip as I have knocked it off my belt numerous times. However, despite several drops and knocks it has stood up to the abuse and still works fine.
