Omron HEM-790IT Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Advanced Omron Health Management Software

Omron HEM-790IT Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Advanced Omron Health Management Software Review

Excellent product. Showed it to my doctor, he said he likes Omron's products. A previous doctor told me I had High Blood Pressure, I told him I do not, it's only high when I go to the doctor's office, he was quick to write me a Rx. So to prove I didn't I bought the machine, best one they offered with software, took measurements 3x/day and showed it to the (new) doctor (who I mentioned above) and he said I do not based on the readings I took and what they took at the office. Very happy : )

Not only does the HEM-790IT Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor utilize Omron's patented IntelliSense technology, but it also features the innovative Comfit Cuff. The ComFit Cuff is pre-formed for a quick and proper fit that is perfect for both medium and large-sized arms (nine to 17 inches). It's easy to apply the cuff to your arm without any assistance -- simply wrap the cuff around your arm and press start. Proven time and time again, Omron's IntelliSense technology ensures accurate, clinically-proven, and comfortable readings. And with a 90 memory recall with date and time stamp, you can track your blood pressure and pulse progress as you work towards a healthier lifestyle.

The Omron HEM-790IT delivers accurate, clinically-proven blood pressure readings in the comfort of your own home.

To take an accurate reading, first position the green marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm.

Next, place your arm on a table so the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart.
Omron Health Management Software
Take your health to the next level with the included Omron Health Management Software. This PC software provides a blood pressure and pulse graph that lets you see how your values are trending over time. A morning/evening comparison graph tracks your morning and evening systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate. You can also view your most common values and identify variations by time frame with the frequency distribution graph. The software is simple to use, and it supports multiple users. With just one click, you can download data via the HEM-790IT's USB connection and see graphically displayed measurements on your computer screen in seconds.

Instructions for Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors
There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this blood pressure monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. On the cuff you'll notice a green marker; position this marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, secure the cuff with the Velcro material. The cuff should make direct contact with your skin, but you should be able to easily fit your index finger between the cuff and your arm.

Place your arm on a table so that the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your blood pressure measurement. Once you feel relaxed, simply press the start button and remain still. The cuff will begin to inflate and numbers will appear on the display as the heart symbol flashes. When the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure.

What is IntelliSense?
The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use -- you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders because their blood pressure is so likely to fluctuate. The biggest advantage of using the IntelliSense technology is a personalized inflation, every time, for maximum comfort.

The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring
Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including:

  • White-coat Hypertension: blood pressure reading is high in your doctor's office but lower at home
  • Masked Hypertension: blood pressure reading is low in doctor's office but higher at home
  • Morning Hypertension: blood pressure reading is higher in the morning
Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, medications, and stress. So having your blood pressure monitored at a pharmacy with an in-store device after you've been shopping or walking around might not provide you with the most accurate measurement. Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you achieve a relaxed state more easily, and it gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your measurements over time. This can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication.

GoWear fit Lifestyle and Calorie Management System

GoWear fit Lifestyle and Calorie Management System Review

I have had my GoWearFit for a week now. I totall love it! I expected it to say 1500 or 1800 calories a day for my calorie intake. Nope - instead it said 2900. I was shocked and amazed. What? No starvation, no killer drop in what can eat. Yep and it has worked. I told it I wanted to lose 2 pounds per week and during week #1 I am down 2 pounds. I watched my calorie intake and burn and kept the deficit in the right area and saw results.

I bought the display and definitely encourage you to spend the extra for display. It is nice to be able to check progress during day without removing arm band and plugging into computer to synch data. The display is not pretty to wear but gives you feedback when you need it and much quicker then synching everytime you want to check yourself. I like the display becuase can see my target (goals), yesterday and today's information for calorie burn, steps taken, activity time. Quick checks can make the difference. If GoWearFit made a prettier display - I definitely would inveset in it. Mine is gray band and face. Not horrible looking but bulky. I do wear it to work in office. So not so bad you wont want to wear it. I wear as a watch becuase afraid I would lose it if clipped onto my pants.

CAUTION: I found out that if I wear the GoWearFit while on my 30 minute commute (one way) that it picked up the road vibrations as steps and activity. Some trial and error has led me to this conclusion. When riding in a car - remove it OR as I do - keep arm perpendicular to body (resting on window edge, out from shoulder) and it wont think you are getting in steps and activity. If arm is parrell to body (hanging down, resting on arm rest) then it will think you are taking steps and getting in activity minutes which could cause an error in calorie burn number. Other than this issue, I have not found any other times when I feel the device is not accurate.

Sleeping - AMAZED! It knew when I was awake, laying in bed, asleep. This is a really cool function.

Food logging - I read some reviews that folks did not like the food logging program. I have had no issue with it. I search for food and find it or something close (eating out items) or if I have the package can create a food immediately. Creating a food is very easy they have the data entry form set up to look like food label. During the week, I was able to go to a movie and eat popcorn and log it. We ate at a Hibachi restaurant, mexican and I was able to find an item close to what I ate to log into the software. If you do not want to log every item - they have a feature for you to enter a daily total.

Personally, I like to log the items. The system will then calcuate your carbs, fat, protein, and the other nutrient values and shows you a complete review of your intake. This is helpful in learning your eating habits and the make up of foods you eat.

The dashboard is a great resource. It has a summary view and then you can click an arrow and see detailed graphs of the entire day to be able to see when during the day your are getting your activity. They have a place (not sure under which menu) called Reports where you can print the information. They also have an export function - I have not used it. Not sure why I would want to use it. The printed reports are good for taking wiht you to doctors appointment.

The synch process if very fast and easy to do. Just plug it in and it does the rest.

Wearing the armband - I was afraid it would be uncomfortable and I would mess with it. After the first day, I forget it is even there. Sleeping was no problem either. I never woke up or felt it. It is very small and compact. I would recommend buying an extra armband (-) so that if you sweat or get it dirty you can swap out.

The online resources are top notch and easy to use. System is good on speed. At home the dashboard flips around quickly but at my work is is slower but defintely usable.

I will come back in one month and give an update on my GoWearFit.

Edit (August 20th) - Been 8 days and still loving it. I have had no issues. I definitley recommend getting the display. I have read reviews saying get disply and not online resources. Make sure you take a look a the online resources. The data that you get from the gowaearfit really is cool and interesting. Being able to see when you are active during your day, your steps and other items by the hour definitely provides valuable information for making some minor adjustments.

I did not want to start this and go extreme. So I changed NOTHING during the first week as far as exercise and made no drastic eating change. My goal after seeing the calorie allowance was to eat the amount or less and try to see where my calorie burn number was without additional effort. This has given me a good baseline to move forward from. I did not want to kill it week one by eating next to nothing and exercising every minute and the gowearfit has provided me great data about how my calorie intake and burn are on normal days.

I look forward now to increasing my exercise slowly and trying to make small diet changes. Yep, knew I liked carbs but did not know for a 7 day period they made up 84% of my diet.

Progress: Week #1 lost 2 pounds which corresponded the calorie deficit system shows

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software Review

This is a very nice pedometer. It is easy to use and the software that comes with it is outstanding.

I wear it every day, download the date daily and track the results.

There are two areas where it could use improvement:

1) The clip that holds it on your trousers/belt is not all that good. I had it fall off quite often. My solution was to have my tailor sew me up a little leather pouch that fits on my belt. I am surprised the company does not sell something like that.

2) The second, and potentially more serious problem is that when wearing the pedometer and riding in a car, the vibrations of the vehicle add "false steps." I called customer service to see if there was any type of a pause command. There isn't. The only way around this is to lay it flat on its back in the vehicle, on a flat surface. This appears to solve the "false step" problem. A pause button would sure be nice.

I am glad I bought the unit and would recommend it to anyone.
