ACCUSPLIT AE170XLG Pedometer with Steps, Distance, Goal Setting, and Calories Burned

ACCUSPLIT AE170XLG Pedometer with Steps, Distance, Goal Setting, and Calories Burned Review

I've owned a few cheaper brands from WalMart that seemed to malfunction after several months. So I did some research and decided upon the AE170LX, which I purchased in September 2009, because it is multipurpose, and seemed pretty sturdy.

After carefully reading the instructions, I measured my stride, which took about 20 minutes to get right. For about a week after, I tested and re-tested by counting steps and checking the device to ensure it was accurate, and for the most part, it was right on. The problem is, if you measure for a leisurely walk, then go out and power walk with larger steps, it's not accurate, but changing your stride length is easy.

I love the steps, distance and calories burned function, which is really helpful in reaching a goal, or walking off the Butterfinger I just ate. And the built-in metal clip really stays onto your pants/shorts quite well. But alas, it doesn't hold up in the washer, so I'm making purchase #2. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because it's a bit time consuming to calibrate, and I don't think a lot of people have the patience to get it just right. Once it's right, though, it's smooth sailing.

Accusplit AE120XLG Goal Setting Pedometer

Accusplit AE120XLG Goal Setting Pedometer Review

I've been using this pedometer for over a year. I keep it clipped to my belt all the time. Its design is so sleek that probably nobody has ever even noticed that I am wearing it.

I just ordered a second one for someone else.

The JW200 step sensor is a quality mechanism. I did a lot of research before deciding on which brand and make of pedometer to buy. If you do the same, you will find that quality is an issue, and that you may not get the best quality out there by shopping at your local stores. I would encourage some online research to verify this for yourself.

The metal clip is great and very welcome indeed. Another example of quality construction.

Finally, as far as functionality, I chose this unit because of its utter simplicity. I can toggle between steps taken and elapsed time at the push of a button. I don't like having to toggle through features I don't use, and this pedometer is perfect for that! I just don't need a pedometer calculating my miles for me, for example. If you walk regularly, you get to know how many steps you take per mile. You get to know how many steps you want to walk and in what time frame.

With the unit attached to your belt, you can simply flip it down to check your steps and time. Then flip it back up and keep walking. The display is not lit, so if you are going to walk at night, keep that in mind.

I love this thing!

Update: The second unit I just purchased had a dead battery (uses one LR44), just as T.L.K. mentioned in an earlier review. Changing the battery was easy. I still rate it 5 stars, but buyers deserve to know that this happened.
