Omron Hip Pedometer

Omron Hip Pedometer Review

This pedometer measures only the number of steps. It will not measure how many miles have you walked. First thing, it is in one of those bubble thing that need some wrestle and care lest you injure yourself for prying it open. It is made by Omron, a brand I trust for my blood pressure and my kids temperature. Made in China.

Simple and easy to use. It only has 2 lines of text, the number of steps and the time. The device is actually attractive. It looks like an MP3 player. I like the white and gray combination of neutral colors. The LCD screen is protected by a layer of clear plastic, so you have to peel it off first before you can use it. The pedometer has a clip at the back so you can clip it on your waist garter, similar to that of the iPod shuffle.

When you get it for the first time, you will need to set up the proper time. It is important to set up the time because the pedometer will go back to 0 at exactly 12:00 AM everyday. It will store your last 7 days of workout,.you just need to press the Memo button to go back to your history. There are 2 buttons at the back and you will need a sharp object to press them. The System Rest button, is a factory reset, this will delete all data and put the setting back to default. The other button is the Set button, used for setting up the time.

While in use, the LCD will turn off after 5 minutes to save battery consumption (but the pedometer will still continue counting steps). Press Memo button to wake up the display again.

There is only one button for the basic operation and it is labeled MEMO, located just at the top of the Omron name. It is too wake up the display or recall 7 days of activity history.

ACCURACY:
I actually counted 200 steps and it recorded 201. The error probably is my own or my position. But that is 0.5% error in accuracy.

BATTERY:
It was shipped with a 3 volts, Energizer Watch/Electronic Batteries, 3 Volts, Energizer Watch/Electronic Batteries, 3 Volts, 2032, 2 batteries (Lithium Button Cell), 2 batteries (Lithium Button Cell) Maxell battery. To open the battery compartment, you will need those small watch screw drivers. 2 screws at the back. There is a low battery indicator to prompt you when you need to replace the battery.

Honestly, for a few bucks more get the Omron HJ-151 Hip Pedometer for Aerobic Activity. It will give you distance and calories burned.
